What happens when you join a clinical trial.
Every study is different, but most follow the same five steps.
- 01
Phone call
Our coordinator asks a few questions to see if a study may fit you.
- 02
Informed consent
We explain the study in your language. Take it home, ask questions, decide with no pressure.
- 03
Screening visit
Exam, vitals, blood or urine tests to confirm you qualify.
- 04
Study visits
Scheduled visits at our Coral Gables office, with study medicine and monitoring.
- 05
Follow-up
A final visit or call to check how you’re doing after the study.
Common questions.
Don’t see yours? Call 786-837-5463.
How long does a study last?
From a few weeks to more than a year, depending on the study. You’ll know the full schedule before you sign anything.
Will I keep seeing my regular doctor?
Yes. Your regular care continues. In many cases your doctor is the study investigator.
Will I get a placebo?
Some studies use a placebo and some don’t. The consent form tells you your chances, and you can ask before deciding.
Does it cost anything?
No. Study medicine, study visits and study tests are covered. Many studies also compensate time and travel.
Do I need insurance?
Usually not for study-related care. Ask the coordinator about the specific study.
